We are hiring a CNC Boring Mill Machinist to join our growing Manufacturing department in Grimsby, ON! Successful candidates must have long-term experience operating and programming a boring mill using CAD/CAM software. Knowledge of SolidWorks is also an asset. This is a full-time, on-site, permanent role.

Experience & Qualifications

What You'll Bring

  • Minimum 5 years of experience machining large fabrications, consisting of machine setup, programming & operation of CNC Boring Mills required
  • Minimum 5 years of experience programming on a 3D model using CAD/CAM software required
  • Knowledge of hyperMILL and SolidWorks is an asset; hyperMILL training to be provided
  • Completion of General Machinist 429A CoQ/CoA an asset
  • Experience safely operating an Overhead Crane to lift and maneuver large work pieces
  • Accurate interpretation of blueprints, schematics, and manuals
  • Experience using various measuring devices
  • Strong attention to detail, communication, and time management skills
  • Demonstrates adaptability and the ability to work under tight deadlines
  • Commitment to quality and safety
  • Team-oriented and demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Strong mechanical and machining knowledge and manual dexterity
  • Knowledge of the properties of metal and other materials
  • Physical stamina; ability to stand for long periods of time and lift up to 50 lbs
  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety practices in a manufacturing environment
  • Own toolbox and tools

CNC Boring Mill Machinist

Position Overview

Position Overview:

  • Report to Manufacturing Team Lead
  • Responsible for Set-up, programming, and operation of a large TOS Horizontal Boring Mill with hyperMILL and Heidenhain control
  • Set up and machine custom midsize to large weldments and small to large plates
  • Interpret drawings, blueprints, manuals, specifications or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations, tools to be used, and materials for the job and setup requirements
  • Inspect pieces in-progress and upon completion for adherence to drawing specifications
  • Verify dimensions of machined parts for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments such as micrometres, verniers, height gauges, depth micrometres
  • Plan the sequence of necessary actions for the completion of a job
  • Monitor machine while working to adjust the feed and identify issues
  • Perform routine machine maintenance and general cleaning of the workspace
  • Use of other manual mills, lathes, saws, and other machinery as needed
  • Ensure the use of proper PPE
  • Adhere to Health & Safety guidelines, as well as VTR’s Mission, Vision, and Values
  • Other related duties and general labour tasks as required

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday, 8.5-hour Day Shift; Employee must be on-site by 8:00am
  • ½ Unpaid lunch from 12:30pm-1:00pm
  • Overtime paid after 40 hours

Wage: $30.00+/hour depending on experience

Work Conditions:

  • Temperature-controlled environment
  • Manufacturing setting with exposure to loud noises and prolonged standing
  • CSA-approved safety shoes and safety glasses required; safety glasses and hearing protection provided
